First, the 1st and 29th US infantry divisions landed at Omaha Beach, where you will begin your day. Yes, our guides will walk you through every aspect of “bloody Omaha,” complete with maps and images. From the layout of the German defenses to the plight of the first waves, we will share with you the stories of these brave Gi’s who conquered the beach.
Secondly, your guide will show you the American Cemetery behind Omaha Beach. the resting place of more than 9,000 American servicemen and women. As a matter of fact, this sacred site receives more than one million visitors a year.
Afterward, you will explore the unique site of Pointe du Hoc. Follow the footsteps of the 2nd US Ranger Battalion, which scaled a 100-foot high cliff to destroy a German gun battery, that threatened the whole US landing operation. In fact, you will see this incredible battlefield, full of bomb craters, bunkers, and dugouts.
Finally, you will have a lunch break in the city of Bayeux, a beautiful city preserved from destruction during WWII. It offers many restaurants, scenic views, and a 1,000-year-old cathedral. Next, you will have the opportunity to visit the famous Bayeux Tapestry depicting the conquest of England by William the Conqueror in 1066.
