Three-Day Tour Was AMAZING
My girlfriend and I wanted to tour the areas fought over during Operation Overlord after completing university, and we could not have been more pleased with our experience with HQCompanyTours and our tour guide Yannick. I’ll be sure not to spoil any portions of the tour(s) as I continue below, because it was truly something special that should be experienced in person. We spent three days touring portions of the Normandy region: The first day covered Omaha Beach, The American WW2 Cemetery, Pointe du Hoc, a German WW2 cemetery, and numerous artillery bunkers; the second day covered Utah Beach, and the many villages and hamlets fought over by the 101st Airborne Division; we concluded with a day trip to Mont St. Michel on the third day. If possible, we would highly recommend a three-day private tour (it is what we chose), as it allowed for a proper experience at each of the historical sites. Again trying to avoid any spoilers, all I will say is that these tours left us feeling as though we walked in the footsteps of heroes during WW2, and were front row with the finest architects of France during the 9th-14th centuries for Mont St. Michel. This of course would not have been possible without our tour guide, Yannick. His English was excellent, and his knowledge of how to navigate the region was superb. We knew we were in for an amazing three days of tours when he told us that his passion for WW2 history stemmed from his days in Middle School. He certainly did not disappoint, and his historical recounting of the events that unfolded on and after D-Day, as well at Mont St. Michel, enriched the cultural experience we partook in. His dinner recommendations during our stay in Bayeux were also excellent. Overall, we highly recommend a tour of this nature over one that is self-guided, or one that only visits the many history museums around town, as it provided an elevated experience during our stay.
